Introduction to the Environmental Service Challenge
Welcome to the Environmental Service Challenge, where students tackle real-world problems related to waste management and environmental regulations. In this program, students take on the role of leaders tasked with solving significant issues that businesses face today. This challenge is designed to teach students about the important laws and rules that help protect our environment.

Understanding the Impact of Laws and Regulations
In the Environmental Service Challenge, students learn how laws and regulations affect how companies handle their waste. Just like traffic rules keep our roads safe, environmental laws ensure that businesses dispose of their waste properly. Understanding these rules is crucial for companies to avoid fines and protect the environment.

Facing Real-World Problems: A Company’s Challenge
Students will work on a real-world scenario where a company was fined $340,000 for not disposing of its products correctly. This situation shows how serious it is to follow environmental laws. Students will lead a team to find out what went wrong and how the company can fix its waste disposal practices to comply with the law in the future.
Analyzing Rules and Company Data
To solve the company’s problem, students will receive important documents. These include:

Rules and Regulations: Detailed guidelines on how different chemical products must be handled and disposed of based on their quantities.
Company Records: Information about the products the company disposed of and the amounts involved.

Students will go through each product to identify the chemicals it contains and calculate how much of each chemical the company should safely discard within a certain time period.

Creating a Compliance Report
After analyzing the data, students will create a report for the company. This report will outline the steps the company needs to take to dispose of its waste safely and according to the law. This task helps students understand the importance of proper waste management and how following regulations can prevent costly mistakes.
