If you’ve ever seen our Starter School logo—a dragon with a red circle behind it and green sunglasses—you might have wondered what it’s all about. It’s not just a quirky design. Every part of the logo has a story, a meaning, and a purpose. Here’s the story behind it.
A few years ago, I visited Japan and was blown away by the culture. Respect and high-quality craftsmanship were everywhere. It was clear that the Japanese take real pride in the work they do. That visit left a lasting impression, and the red circle in our logo reflects that. It’s inspired by the red in the Japanese flag, reminding us to take pride in our craft here at Starter School.
No, we’re not Japanese—we’re proud Americans. But that red circle is a daily reminder to carry forward the values of quality and dedication in everything we do.
The dragon in our logo symbolizes something bigger—a mythical hero rising up to fix the broken education system. Let’s face it: many parents worry that traditional schools aren’t preparing kids for a world that’s rapidly changing with technology.
Our dragon represents the courage and innovation needed to tackle that problem. It’s a fun and bold mascot for Starter School, but it’s also a reminder of our mission: helping students adapt and thrive in a tech-driven world.
And then there are the green sunglasses—our “green goggles.” These aren’t just for show; they represent a different way of seeing the world. They’re about creativity, spotting opportunities, and doing things differently.
The idea of the green goggles actually comes from a story my mentor shared with me back in 2015. He told me about a man who noticed something unusual while sitting on a park bench. He saw a train loaded with empty shipping containers. Most people wouldn’t think much of it, but this man saw an opportunity. He called the cargo company, learned that they were struggling to fill those containers, and brokered a deal to help. By filling just 20 containers, he earned nearly $20,000 in commissions.
That’s what the green goggles are about—training your brain to see possibilities that others might overlook. At Starter School, we teach our students to do the same: approach problems creatively, embrace challenges, and spot opportunities. Oh, and have fun while doing it!
